A Domestic Abuse Action Team (DAAT) was created, with members coming from a number or organisations including the Derby Domestic Violence Unit, the Council for Voluntary Services and the police. But the team had no materials via which it could provide information and contact details.
Initially it approached Quiet Storm to create a logo, to provide it with an identity. And the designers came up with an idea based on a broken jigsaw piece.
"We knew immediately that Quiet Storm understood what our message was and that we have to be careful about the images we use," Family Support Co-ordinator Domestic Abuse Jacqui Howell said.
And when DAAT returned to ask Quiet Storm to design a leaflet for the campaign, with an important aim being to show that domestic abuse can involve any type of person, the team were delighted with the result.
Jacqui said, "We had asked for images showing men, women, children, elderly people, same sex couples and disabled people and we wanted to ask if people realise any of these can be abused or be an abuser. Quiet Storm arranged the images in the form of a question mark – that, we think, was a stroke of genius!" To provide a fast turnaround and because only a small print run was needed, Quiet Storm produced the leaflets in house. In addition they have subsequently designed flyers, posters, fuzz bugs and balloons for an awareness-raising week taking place in the near future in South Derbyshire.
